What We Do

Renewable Energy

Our renewable energy program focuses on developing Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH) that generate clean energy from natural water flows, an ideal solution for rural areas with accessible water resources

Overview

How we bring clean energy to rural areas

Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH) generate clean energy from natural water flows. They are an ideal solution for rural areas with accessible water resources, where a reliable local power source can change daily life and work

These systems reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and support long term energy independence while advancing community sustainability. By harnessing local hydrological potential, micro hydro installations provide a reliable and renewable energy source for the community

The result strengthens local livelihoods, builds economic resilience, and contributes to environmental conservation and sustainable rural development. Our Chair, Ms. Tri Mumpuni, brings more than two decades of community based renewable energy work to this program area

What is included

Feasibility, Design and Engineering
System Installation and Maintenance
Community Capacity Building
In depth

What Renewable Energy covers

Each part of the service answers a question that communities and funders ask before, during, and after a power plant is built

01

Feasibility, Design and Engineering

A careful look at whether a site can support a micro hydro plant, followed by the design and engineering that make it work. We study local water resources and community needs, then design a system that is reliable and suited to the place

You receiveA feasibility assessment and a technical design for the plant
02

System Installation and Maintenance

Building the system and keeping it running. We support installation and put maintenance arrangements in place, with clear responsibilities for the people who operate the plant, so it keeps delivering clean, reliable energy long after construction ends

You receiveAn installed system with a clear maintenance arrangement
03

Community Capacity Building

Preparing the community to operate and benefit from its own power source. We build local skills and organization around the plant, so it strengthens livelihoods and economic resilience for years to come

You receiveTraining and guidance for the people who will run and use the plant
How we work

From water source to reliable community power

Every renewable energy program follows the same connected path, so that a natural resource becomes a lasting community benefit

1

Community needs assessment

We listen first, learning how the community uses energy today, what it needs, and how a local power source could support daily life and livelihoods

2

Assess the site and design

We examine local water resources and plan the engineering of a micro hydro system that fits the site and the needs of the community

3

Install and hand over

We support construction and installation, then put operation and maintenance arrangements in place so the plant can run reliably

4

Build capacity and monitor

We train local people to look after the system, and we track how the plant performs and what it changes for the community

Why it matters

Results based design is becoming the standard

Clean energy projects earn trust when they keep working and can show what they change. Measuring performance and community benefit helps partners prove that a plant delivers reliable energy and lasting value
